PARISH CLERK

After nine years as Parish Clerk Margaret Badcock retired at the end of September. The Council thanks Margaret for all she has done for the village during this time and wish her a happy retirement.

Julie Pledger, a true Sawstonian born and bred in the village, has been appointed new Parish Clerk.

BONFIRE NIGHT

Saturday 8th November
The annual firework display organised by the Parish Council with assistance from the ATC and school PTAs will be held on
Huckeridge Hill. Gates open at 6.00pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm with fireworks starting at 7.00pm. Prizes will be awarded in the best guy and best pumpkin competitions for under 16s and family entries – bring your entry along on the night. Admission is fee for Sawston residents.

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING

Friday 12th December from 6.00pm
Late Night Shopping will open at 6.00pm with the spectacular arrival of Father Christmas.

Many shops will be open; stalls offering a huge variety of goodies will line the streets; hot chestnuts and other refreshments will be on sale. Children will be able to visit Father Christmas in his Grotto; take a roundabout ride and explore a fire engine.

Creating a Seasonal atmosphere throughout the evening there will be Christmas music from Hadstock Silver in the High Street and carols with the Bellbird schoolchildren in Morley’s Place.

The Parish Council Offices will be open for tea and homemade cakes.

OCTOBER NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING OCTOBER MEETING

Following discussion priorities set at this meeting include addressing anti social driving and parking and continued targeting of underage drinking in the lead up to Christmas.


Mindful of anti social activity linked to seasonal events and PCSOs will be proactive in visiting shops during the lead up to Halloween and Bonfire Night reminding them of their responsibilities regarding the sale of firework, flour and eggs to youngsters.

NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING PANEL
Next Meeting Monday 5 January 2009

Meeting four times a year the Neighbourhood Policing Panel provides a forum for Parish Councils, local people and the police officers working amongst them to discuss and prioritise issues concerning residents. Next meeting - 7.30pm Monday 5 January 2009 at Sawston Village College.
